Komodo Airport to Padar Island & Pink Beach: How It Works

You cannot drive to Padar Island or Pink Beach. Both sit inside Komodo National Park and are reached by boat from Labuan Bajo. Travellers land at Komodo Airport (Labuan Bajo, airport code LBJ) and search for “Komodo Airport to Padar Island” expecting a single booking. In reality every Padar and Pink Beach visit is two separate legs run by two kinds of operators, and knowing where the handover happens is what makes the morning go smoothly.

Leg 1: Komodo Airport to Your Departure Dock

Labuan Bajo is compact, which works in your favour. The airport sits just above town, and every pier used for Padar and Pink Beach departures is a short drive away:

Leg 2: The Boat to Padar Island and Pink Beach

Padar’s three-bay viewpoint and Pink Beach are the two most requested stops in Komodo National Park, and most day itineraries pair them — the viewpoint climb in the cool early hours, then swimming and snorkelling off the pink sand later in the morning. Many boats add Komodo Island itself or a manta site to the same loop.

All of that happens on the water, so it belongs to the boat operator. Choose the boat first; the ground leg then shapes itself around the boat’s schedule, not the other way around.

Departure Times: Why the Morning Matters

This is where most plans succeed or fail. Day boats to Padar and Pink Beach leave Labuan Bajo early — most operators push off between about 5.30 AM and 7.00 AM so guests can climb Padar before the heat and complete the loop by late afternoon. Exact times vary by boat, so always confirm with your operator.

Now put that against flight schedules. Flights into Komodo Airport arrive from mid-morning onwards, which means:

• Landing today, boat tomorrow is the pattern that works for almost everyone. We drive you from the airport to your hotel, you sleep, and we collect you before dawn for the pier.
• Same-day boat trips only work with a private charter that agrees to a later departure — shared open trips will not wait for a flight. If this is your plan, tell us and the boat operator before you fly.
• Tight connections through Bali are the riskiest hour of the whole trip. If your Bali–Labuan Bajo flight is delayed and your boat is prepaid for the same day, there is no road-based plan B to an island. Build in the overnight buffer.

A Realistic Boat-Morning Timeline

What It Costs

• Airport–hotel and airport–pier transfers: quoted on WhatsApp — the price depends on your group size and vehicle (Innova, Hiace, Fortuner or Alphard-class, all with English-speaking drivers).
• Full-day private car with driver-guide: from USD 95 (±IDR 1,500,000) per day, useful if you want a land day around Labuan Bajo before or after your boat trip.
• Komodo National Park entrance: USD 40 per person, paid once per trip — not per day, and not separately for Padar and Pink Beach on the same itinerary. A drone permit is USD 130, also once per trip.
• The boat itself: priced by Komodo Luxury according to the trip you choose — shared open trip, private speedboat or liveaboard.
