Travellers land at Komodo Airport and search for “Komodo Airport to Padar Island” expecting a single booking. In reality every Padar and Pink Beach visit is two separate legs run by two kinds of operators, and knowing where the handover happens is what makes the morning go smoothly.
We are the ground operator: airport pickup, the drive to your hotel or straight to the departure dock, and the return leg when your boat comes back. The sea leg — the boat, crew, ranger-guided landings and snorkelling stops — belongs to Komodo Luxury. We do not sell the boat tour as our own product, and any company at the airport that claims one price covers everything deserves a careful second look. What we do is make sure the two legs meet: your driver knows your boat’s departure time before you land.
Leg 1: Komodo Airport to your departure dock
Labuan Bajo is compact, which works in your favour. The airport sits just above town, and every pier used for Padar and Pink Beach departures is a short drive away.
A detail from our daily operations: our drivers work off a shared pickup coordination schedule every morning, matching flight numbers to hotels and departure piers — Ayana, Katamaran, Sudamala, Meruorah and the marina hotels are the runs we make most often. That is why we ask for your flight number and your boat’s name when you book. If the flight is late, the driver already knows; if the pier changes, we hear about it from the ground, not from an app.
Leg 2: the boat to Padar Island and Pink Beach
Padar’s three-bay viewpoint and Pink Beach are the two most requested stops in Komodo National Park, and most day itineraries pair them — the viewpoint climb in the cool early hours, then swimming and snorkelling off the pink sand later in the morning. Many boats add Komodo Island itself or a manta site to the same loop.
All of that happens on the water, so it belongs to the boat operator. For the sea leg we point our guests to Komodo Luxury, our sister company, which runs shared open trips, private speedboat charters and multi-day liveaboards into the park. Choose the boat first; the ground leg then shapes itself around the boat’s schedule, not the other way around.
Departure times: why the morning matters
This is where most plans succeed or fail. Day boats to Padar and Pink Beach leave Labuan Bajo early — most operators push off between about 5.30 AM and 7.00 AM so guests can climb Padar before the heat and complete the loop by late afternoon. Exact times vary by boat, so always confirm with your operator.
Landing today, boat tomorrow is the pattern that works for almost everyone: we drive you from the airport to your hotel, you sleep, and we collect you before dawn for the pier. Same-day boat trips only work with a private charter that agrees to a later departure — shared open trips will not wait for a flight. Tight connections through Bali are the riskiest hour of the whole trip: if that flight is delayed and your boat is prepaid for the same day, there is no road-based plan B to an island. Build in the overnight buffer.

Usually not on a shared trip. Day boats leave Labuan Bajo between about 5.30 AM and 7.00 AM, before the first flights land. Same-day departures only work with a private charter that agrees to a later start, so the standard plan is to land, overnight in Labuan Bajo, and board the next morning.
02 How far is Komodo Airport from the boat departure piers?
Very close. The marina by Meruorah is about 7 minutes from the airport, the town harbour and main jetty around 10 to 15 minutes, and Ayana’s private jetty roughly 15 minutes. Our driver takes you to whichever pier your boat operator names.
03 Do I pay the Komodo National Park fee separately for Padar and Pink Beach?
No. The park entrance fee is USD 40–50 per person, paid once per trip, and it covers the destinations inside the national park on that itinerary, including Padar and Pink Beach. It is not charged per day. If you fly a drone, the permit is USD 135, also paid once.
04 Does Komodo Airport Transfer operate the boat tour itself?
No. We are the ground operator: airport pickups, hotel and pier transfers, and the return leg when your boat docks. The boat to Padar and Pink Beach is arranged through Komodo Luxury, and we synchronise your pickup times with the departure your boat operator confirms.
05 Can you pick me up at the dock when the boat returns in the afternoon?
Yes. Tell us your boat’s estimated return time and a driver will be waiting at the pier to take you back to your hotel or straight to Komodo Airport. If you have a same-day flight out, mention it so we can build in a buffer and, if needed, add fast-track assistance.
