Indonesia Entry for Komodo Visitors

Visa on Arrival Guide

Indonesia’s Visa on Arrival explained — eligibility, fees, the airport process, and extending your stay for a longer Komodo trip.

In Brief

Indonesia’s Visa on Arrival (VoA / B213) covers 90–plus nationalities, costs IDR 500,000 (~USD 35), and is available at international gateways including Bali (DPS) — where most Komodo-bound travellers connect. It can also be applied for online as an e-VoA before departure.

What is the Indonesia Visa on Arrival and who is eligible?

What is the Indonesia Visa on Arrival and who is eligible?

The VoA (B213) is a single-entry tourist visa valid for 30 days, extendable once. Citizens of 90–plus countries are eligible, including all EU member states, the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, and India. Most ASEAN nationals enter visa-free and pay nothing. For a standard two-to-four week Komodo itinerary, the VoA is the right instrument.

If you plan to stay beyond 60 days, a B211A Social Visit Visa obtained at an Indonesian consulate before departure is more appropriate. For unusual circumstances (dual nationality, refugee travel documents), check with the nearest Indonesian consulate directly — the authoritative eligibility list is at imigrasi.go.id.

How to get your VoA at Komodo Airport and connecting airports

Most LBJ-bound travellers route through Bali (DPS) or Jakarta (CGK) — both international gateways where the VoA is issued. Clear immigration there and you arrive at LBJ as a domestic passenger with no further formalities. The VoA counter sits before the immigration desks. Steps: (1) proceed to the VoA payment counter, (2) pay IDR 500,000 by card or cash, (3) receive your stamp, (4) proceed to the immigration officer with passport, arrival card, and onward ticket, (5) biometrics, (6) collect passport and proceed to baggage.

If LBJ is your first Indonesian port of entry (uncommon), apply for an e-VoA online at molina.imigrasi.go.id before departure to guarantee a smooth process on arrival.

Extending your Visa on Arrival in Indonesia

Extending your Visa on Arrival in Indonesia

The VoA can be extended once for an additional 30 days (maximum 60 days total). Apply in person at the Kantor Imigrasi in Labuan Bajo before your original 30-day period expires — extensions cannot be done online. Bring your passport, a passport photo, a completed extension form (available at the office), and IDR 500,000 in cash. Processing takes 1–3 working days; your passport is held during that time, so plan around any multi-day boat trips.

For stays beyond 60 days, a B211A Social Visit Visa obtained before departure is the appropriate route. Indonesian immigration has tightened enforcement in recent years, so repeated short-stay re-entries can attract scrutiny.

Ask the Concierge
01 How much does the Indonesia Visa on Arrival cost?

IDR 500,000 (~USD 35), payable by card or cash at the official VoA counter. The same fee applies to the one-time extension.

02 How long is the Visa on Arrival valid?

30 days from entry, extendable once for a further 30 days — 60 days maximum on the B213.

03 Can I extend my VoA in Labuan Bajo?

Yes. Apply in person at the Kantor Imigrasi in Labuan Bajo before your 30-day period expires. Processing takes 1–3 working days; your passport is held during that time.

04 Which nationalities are eligible for the Indonesia VoA?

90–plus nationalities, including all EU countries, UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, China, and India. Current list: imigrasi.go.id.

05 What is the e-VoA and is it better than the on-arrival option?

The e-VoA (molina.imigrasi.go.id) is applied for before departure at the same cost. It lets you use the faster e-channel desk on arrival — saving 30–45 minutes at Bali during busy periods.

06 What if my nationality is not on the VoA-eligible list?

You will need a visa in advance from an Indonesian embassy. The most common option is a B211A Social Visit Visa — contact the nearest Indonesian diplomatic post well before travel.
