Labuan Bajo Taxi & Private Driver
There is no metered taxi fleet in Labuan Bajo — no ranks, no meters, and thin ride-hailing coverage. Transport here runs on fixed-price private cars agreed before you ride. We operate exactly that: airport pickups, hotel and harbour runs, and full-day private drivers, booked on WhatsApp at +62 811 3810 5742.
Why there are no metered taxis in Labuan Bajo
Labuan Bajo is a small harbour town that grew fast. Tourism arrived quicker than town infrastructure, and a licensed metered-taxi fleet never established itself here the way it did in Bali or Jakarta. What exists instead is a patchwork: hotel cars, a local drivers’ association at the airport with fixed route prices, freelance drivers who work through WhatsApp, and operators like us running scheduled transfers. Ride-hailing apps do open here, but car coverage is thin — you can find nothing available when you need it, and app pickups at the airport are unreliable enough that we would never plan an onward connection around one.
None of this is a problem once you know the system. Fixed pricing agreed before you get in the car is the norm in this town, and it works in your favour: no meter anxiety, no route games, and a price in writing on WhatsApp before you even land.
Your actual options, honestly compared
| Option | How it works | Best for | Watch out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel car | Booked through reception | Arrivals at the big resorts | Often the highest-priced option in town |
| Airport drivers’ counter | Fixed route prices, walk up on arrival | Unplanned arrivals | Queues when flights bunch up; a larger car is not guaranteed |
| Ride-hailing app | Request in the app | Short hops in town when a car appears | Thin coverage; unreliable at the airport |
| Private driver — us | Booked on WhatsApp; driver waits with a name sign | Airport pickups, harbour mornings, day trips | Book a day ahead in high season |
Our rates
We keep pricing simple and fixed, agreed in writing before the ride. Nothing changes on the day.
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| Full-day car with English-speaking driver-guide | Around USD 95 (±IDR 1,500,000) per day, per car |
| Airport to hotel transfer | Fixed per route, quoted on WhatsApp |
| Hotel to harbour, timed to boat check-in | Fixed per route, quoted on WhatsApp |
| Evening runs, restaurant drops, waiting time | Quoted on WhatsApp |
| Multi-day overland — Ruteng, Flores crossings | From the daily car rate, itinerary quoted on WhatsApp |
| Wae Rebo two-day, one-night arrangement | USD 190 (±IDR 3,000,000) |
Route prices depend on where you are staying — Meruorah sits in the marina a few minutes from the airport, Ayana is about fifteen minutes south of town — so we quote per route rather than publish one number that is wrong for half the hotels. Full details are on our pricing page; for a firm number, send your hotel name on WhatsApp and you will have it in writing.
Cars and drivers
The fleet is the one that runs our airport service every day: Toyota Innova for couples and small families, Hiace vans for groups travelling with dive bags, Fortuner and Alphard-class cars when you want more room and comfort. Drivers speak English and know every hotel, jetty and back street in town. From our own pickup coordination logs, Ayana Komodo, Katamaran, Sudamala, Bintang Flores, Meruorah and Seaesta are the properties we collect from most — hundreds of runs across those six alone — so whoever picks you up has almost certainly driven your exact route that week.
The runs we do every day
- Airport arrivals and departures. We meet you at Komodo Airport arrivals with a name sign and track your flight if it slips. The full meet-and-greet detail is on our airport transfer page.
- Harbour mornings. Boats out of Labuan Bajo leave early, and check-in queues are real. We time hotel-to-harbour runs so you are standing on the jetty before boarding opens. The boat itself — open trips, private charters, liveaboards — is our sister company’s side of the family: Komodo Luxury boat tours and liveaboards. We make sure you never miss one.
- Land days. Our city tour by private car covers Batu Cermin, Rangko cave, Cunca Wulang waterfall, Melo village and the sunset hills.
- Dinner runs and errands. The driver drops you, waits, or comes back when you call — agreed up front.
What a fair deal looks like here
Because there is no meter, the only protection you have is a price agreed before the wheels turn. A fair local deal has three parts: the price is fixed and in writing, it is per car rather than per person, and the driver’s name and car are confirmed before pickup. That is our standard on every booking, from a five-minute hotel drop to a week crossing Flores. If anyone quotes you a price that only becomes final at the destination, walk away — that is not how this town works when it works well.
How to book
WhatsApp +62 811 3810 5742 with your date, pickup point — flight number if it is the airport — destination, number of passengers and bags. We reply with a fixed price in writing, and on the day you get your driver’s name and car. Booking a day ahead guarantees the vehicle; same-day requests we take whenever a car is free, though mornings in the dry-season rush, roughly May to September, are the crunch.
