Komodo Airport Meet And Greet Pickup Points
- LBJ is a single-terminal airport — one arrival door
- Driver holds an A4 name board with your full name and “Komodo Airport Transfer”
- Pickup zone is 8 metres from the exit, on the right
- Free Wi-Fi inside arrivals if you need to message before walking out
What is the meet and greet at Komodo Airport?
Meet and greet at LBJ is the moment between you exiting customs/baggage claim and getting into your pre-booked transfer vehicle. At larger airports this involves a curated VIP lounge experience. At Komodo Airport — a small, single-terminal regional airport — it is intentionally simple: one exit door, one driver standing there, one name board. The smallness of the airport is the asset, not a problem.
Here is the full sequence, gate to vehicle, for a typical international arrival:
- Aircraft taxis to apron. LBJ has no jet bridges; you walk down stairs onto the tarmac, then walk roughly 30 metres to the terminal door. Allow 5 minutes from wheels-stop to terminal entry.
- Immigration (international only). A small kiosk at the head of the arrivals corridor. Indonesian visa-on-arrival or visa-exempt processing. Queues are typically 5–15 minutes, occasionally longer if a Scoot wide-body lands at peak.
- Baggage claim. Two carousels — #1 and #2 — adjacent to the immigration exit. Bags appear within 8–15 minutes of landing for domestic, 15–25 minutes for international.
- Customs. Walk through. There is no formal customs queue at LBJ for inbound passengers; the process is pass-through unless you are flagged.
- Exit door. Single door from arrivals into the open-air covered driveway. There is no separate “domestic” vs “international” exit — they merge.
- Driver location. Immediately outside, on the right side of the door (your right as you walk out), in a clearly designated meet-and-greet zone. Your driver holds an A4 board with your full name printed plus “Komodo Airport Transfer” beneath it.
Total time from wheels-down to seeing the driver: 15–25 minutes for most arrivals. We hold the meeting point for 30 minutes free after touchdown.
Where exactly is the pickup zone at LBJ?
LBJ Komodo International Airport has a single arrivals exit. Outside that exit is a covered driveway approximately 8 metres deep × 30 metres wide. The pickup zone is structured as follows:
| Position | Who is there | What it looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Immediately outside the door, right side | Pre-booked transfer drivers | Drivers holding name boards, lined up in a row of 5–10 |
| Centre of driveway | Hotel shuttle vehicles | Branded minivans/buses for AYANA, Plataran, Meruorah |
| Left side / kerb | Kerb taxis (informal) | Drivers approaching arrivals walking toward you |
| Far end of driveway | Private cars + family pickup | Friends/family waving from across the road |
Our drivers stand in the right-side row, holding the board, in plain view from the moment you walk through the exit door. The board format is consistent: white background, black serif font, your full name on top line (legal name as on booking), “Komodo Airport Transfer” or our operator name on the second line, sometimes a booking reference number.
If you are international and your name has unusual characters or your booking is under a slightly different spelling, we print the board with both versions to remove ambiguity. Tell us in the booking notes if your passport name differs from your booking name.
How will I recognise my driver?
Three identifiers, in order of priority:
1. The name board
This is the primary identifier. Your name printed in black on white, A4 size. We never use an image, logo only, or generic “Welcome to Komodo” phrasing — your actual name should be visible from 5 metres away. If a driver is holding a board with your name, it is your driver.
2. The driver’s appearance
Your booking confirmation email includes a photo of your driver and the vehicle plate number, sent 24 hours before pickup. The driver wears a polo shirt with our operator name embroidered on the chest. Black or navy trousers. ID badge clipped to the polo. Consistent across the fleet.
3. The vehicle
In rare cases (heavy peak congestion at the small driveway), your driver may have parked the vehicle in the secondary lot 50 metres further on. They will walk you to it. The vehicle is one of our three fleet types — Toyota Innova (most common), Toyota Hiace (groups), or Toyota Alphard (luxury) — with our operator decal on the windshield bottom-right.
If you cannot see your name board within 60 seconds of walking out, message us on WhatsApp immediately. Our dispatch will radio the driver and confirm the meeting point. There is rarely confusion because the airport is so small, but the WhatsApp loop is the fallback for any edge case.
How is meet and greet at Komodo different from larger airports?
Anyone who has done meet-and-greet at Bali Ngurah Rai (DPS), Singapore Changi, or Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) is used to a very different choreography:
- DPS Bali: Multiple exit doors, separate domestic/international halls, dedicated “meet and greet” lane behind a glass barrier, name boards visible from inside the corridor before you exit. The signage and queue management is heavy.
- Changi: Massive multi-terminal complex, dedicated meet-and-greet lounges (paid), porters available, the airport itself is the experience.
- CGK Jakarta: Multiple arrival doors per terminal, paid VIP fast-track service, taxi queues, complex driveway with multiple lanes.
LBJ is not like any of these. It is a single, purpose-built regional terminal. The total walk from immigration to exit is roughly 60 metres. The driveway is roughly 30 metres wide. There is one place to stand, one place to look, and one direction to walk. The smallness is a feature.
That smallness has one consequence travellers from larger airports should know: there is no quiet meet-and-greet lounge, no separate VIP arrival hall, and no porter service inside the airport. If you have booked our VIP meet-and-greet upgrade ($45 add-on), the upgrade is a greeter who meets you inside the arrivals corridor, before baggage claim, helps you with bags, and walks you to the Alphard. It is not a separate lounge; LBJ does not have one.
How to find Wi-Fi or signal at Komodo Airport
A real and persistent concern for arriving passengers: mobile signal at LBJ arrivals can be unreliable. This is documented across traveller forums and is one of the small frustrations of a brand-new international gateway. Key info:
- Free Wi-Fi — yes, available throughout the terminal. SSID typically “LBJ Free Wi-Fi” or similar; no password but a one-time email registration. Connects within 60 seconds.
- Telkomsel signal — strongest network at LBJ; if you have an Indonesian SIM (Telkomsel, IM3, or XL), this is most reliable. Roaming on these networks usually works for major international carriers.
- International roaming — variable. Singapore SIMs roam reasonably well; Australian SIMs are spotty. Best practice is to assume signal is unreliable for the first 5–10 minutes after exit.
The practical implication: if you want to message us about a delay or driver-confirmation question on landing, use the Wi-Fi inside the terminal before walking out. The pickup zone driveway is open-air and has weaker signal.
Step-by-step: a typical arrival from disembarking to driving away
A walk-through of an actual sequence — using a Garuda GA 433 from Bali landing at 14:00:
- 14:00 — Wheels-down at LBJ. Aircraft taxis to apron. We track this via FlightAware.
- 14:05 — Stairs and walk to terminal. Open-air, 30 metres.
- 14:08 — Through the terminal door, walk left toward immigration. International only — domestic from Bali skips this. Queue typically 5 min.
- 14:13 — Baggage claim. Two carousels (#1 and #2) — your flight number is shown on the screen above. Bags arrive 14:18–14:25.
- 14:25 — Walk through customs. Pass-through, no queue.
- 14:27 — Exit through main arrivals door. Walk out into covered driveway.
- 14:28 — See driver on right side, holding name board. “John Smith — Komodo Airport Transfer.”
- 14:29 — Driver greets, takes bags, walks to vehicle. Innova parked 10 metres away.
- 14:32 — In vehicle, A/C running, water in cup holder. Driver confirms hotel destination.
- 14:35 — Departing airport driveway, route confirmed via Google Maps.
- 14:48 — Arriving at hotel (e.g., Meruorah Komodo). 13 minutes from airport.
Total, wheels-down to hotel lobby: 48 minutes. The walk-through above describes a typical international arrival; domestic from Bali shaves about 8 minutes off (no immigration). For an outer-coast hotel like AYANA, add 7 minutes; for a boat-required island like Sudamala Seraya, add the speedboat sequence (a separate orchestration).
What this means for you
Meet-and-greet at Komodo Airport is one of the simplest arrivals in Southeast Asia if you know where to look. The complications people experience at LBJ — confusion at the exit, scams from kerb drivers, anxiety about mobile signal — are all manageable with one piece of preparation: a confirmed pre-booking with a name-board pickup.
Once that is in place, the airport’s smallness works in your favour. There is one door, one row of drivers, one name board for you, one walk to one vehicle. No terminal navigation, no shuttle bus, no airport train. If you are arriving on the new Scoot direct from Singapore, via Bali on Garuda or Citilink, or on a domestic rotation from Surabaya, the pickup choreography is identical.
Frequently asked follow-up questions
What if I cannot see my name board?
Walk slowly along the right-side row of drivers. Read each board. If you do not see your name within 60 seconds, message us on WhatsApp using LBJ’s free Wi-Fi from inside the terminal. Our dispatcher confirms the driver location within 2 minutes. The driver may have stepped back to the secondary parking — they will walk to you.
Can I get help with my bags?
Yes — your driver carries your bags from the meeting point to the vehicle, included in the price. If you have booked our VIP meet-and-greet upgrade, the greeter assists from inside arrivals. We do not have separate paid porter service because the walk is short enough that it is not needed.
Is there a paid VIP lounge inside Komodo Airport?
No, LBJ does not have a paid arrivals lounge. There is a small departure lounge airside (post-security) but no equivalent landside before exit. If you want the closest equivalent to a VIP arrival, the Alphard + champagne package is the upgrade — see our VIP transfer service.
Where do hotel shuttles wait at LBJ?
Centre of the driveway, separate from our private-transfer pickup zone. Branded vehicles for AYANA, Plataran, Meruorah, and Sudamala have designated waiting positions. If you have booked through your hotel, look for the hotel logo, not a name board.
What if my flight lands at 02:00 AM?
LBJ arrivals are open 24/7 even when no flights are scheduled, but the lighting is reduced overnight. Your driver is still in the same pickup zone, with the same name board. The late-night surcharge of $8 applies for pickups 00:00–04:30. The exit door, the driveway, and the meeting choreography are unchanged.
Where is the Komodo airport pickup zone for liveaboards?
The same pickup zone as for hotels — but if you have booked an airport-to-marina transfer, your driver takes you 5 km / 13 minutes to Pelabuhan Marina (Bayview) where your vessel waits. See our marina liveaboard transfer service for the full route.
Can I add a stop on the way to my hotel?
Yes — supermarket, ATM, SIM card kiosk. Free for stops up to 15 minutes total. Photo stops at scenic points are charged at $10 per 30 minutes; see our pricing page for the full add-on table.
Plan your transfer
The mechanics of LBJ meet-and-greet stop being mysterious the moment you have a confirmed booking. Walk out the exit door, look right, find your name on a board. Our Labuan Bajo airport transfer hub sets up the booking in five minutes. Your confirmation email includes driver photo, vehicle plate, and a WhatsApp number for live tracking on travel day.
If you are arriving with a group, a child seat request, or to a boat-required hotel like Sudamala Seraya, book through the homepage form with the special-instructions field filled in. The choreography adapts but the meeting point does not change. One door, one driver, one name board, one drive to your hotel.
